Mom Said So
Well, the thing is, if Mom asks you to do something, you do it, right? So, here we go. Mom saw a post I left on Facebook on ("Throwback") Thursday 12/31/20 and asked me to add it to this blog. I had been thinking about what I wanted most that night and it was a hug from Dad. He has a gift for hugs. If you've never had one, I hope that one day you get the pleasure. He just has a sixth sense to be able to empathize in the appropriate way with whatever a person is dealing with in the moment and deliver that message, wordless, via hug. It was heartwarming to read messages from friends and family that are familiar with these famous hugs.
One included a former Softball Teammate, whom Dad coached for years. It occurred to me that there are HUNDREDS of such girls out there - former team members of a Dale Saunders' Little League Softball Team.
And if they knew he's currently in the fight of his life, legions of them would cheer:
COACH SAUNDERS!:
Be Aggressive
Be Be Aggressive
B-E-A-GG-R-ESS-IVE!!!
Anyway, the photo here and post below are what Mom asked me to share and so here we are.
Early on in this pandemic, there was a meme roaming about along the lines of “check on your hugger friends: they’re not ok”. As a chronic hugger, I can confirm this has likely been one of my biggest challenges this year - not being able to embrace my family and friends in those very rare instances I got to see them. Worse? Missing hugs from the world’s best hugger: my Dad. It’s truly a gift of his and there is nobody out there that can hug like this man and I miss it. So this #throwbackthursday post is brought to you all by a Dad hug, captured at the finish line of my first marathon in 2010. May I, my siblings and our children find a way to get one of these epic hugs as early in 2021 as possible. Happy New Year’s, friends.
More to come on Dad tomorrow. We spoke with the physician this evening and are anxious to see how he does overnight. Meantime, if you catch this, please just send prayers that include "Be Aggressive"! Trust me, he will KNOW to do with that information when he receives it.
Peace,
Saunders Six
Carrie, after the initial shock of seeing me tonight, Dad reached out his arms and gave me a virtual hug. Though it was through glass, somehow I could still feel it. And it was awesome!!

So happy that some of you are able to see your Dad! We have all been covering him in prayer - Mark & I prayed over the phone last night, Wayne, Tara and Heather. I consider Dale the patriarch of the Staples family - the only son of their first daughter, Grace. He is one special individual. We love him and want him to stay with us. God willing. Love and prayers of healing.
